From initial discussion to delivery and set-up, the process is designed to be clear, professional, uncomplicated, and hopefully, fun
for my customers. The process
typically follows these key milestones:
· Information Gathering
- We meet to understand what you want built in terms of design, dimensions,
functionality, materials, etc. Any
drawings, sketches, or pictures you may have which graphically describe the
piece (completely or various elements) will be reviewed.
· Proposal
- Based on the information gathered during the initial meeting and one or two
follow-up telephone calls, a very professional Proposal is developed. Included
in the highly detailed Proposal is the Project Description, Materials expected to be utilized, Inclusions and Exclusions, Project
Timeframe, and associated Milestones and Payment dates. The objective is no
surprises: you will know exactly what to expect and when to expect it. · Project Construction -
Receipt of the accepted and signed Proposal and the initial payment trigger the
transformation of your ideas into reality. Materials are sourced and the process
of handcrafting your piece begins. You
will be encouraged to visit the shop at any time to see the progress. I may
recommend minor enhancements along the way, and I’ll entertain any minor
changes you may suggest to make the piece its absolute best.
· Color and Finishing -
Toward the end of the construction phase, a sample board containing numerous
color samples is produced in order to arrive at the exact color you want.
Once the color is determined, you’ll see that sample with one or
several protective finish coats applied for your final approval. When
the construction phase is completed, you will have an opportunity to inspect the
piece before color (if applicable) and finish are applied. Color (if applicable)
is applied, followed by several coats of protective finish (i.e., oil varnish,
lacquer, etc.). ·
Delivery/Set-Up/Hardware
Installation – While the
finish is drying/curing, we’ll agree on a date for delivery and set-up (if
applicable). Once the
furniture/cabinetry is set in place, exterior hardware (i.e., door/drawer pulls
or handles, adjustable shelf pins, etc.) is installed.
