“Having a business in antiquarian prints requires surroundings that are sophisticated without being pretentious. As our business has grown, so has our need for functional furniture that also meets our aesthetic standards. We wanted a classic design made in the tradition of time-tested construction – dovetailed and dowelled – built to last for centuries. Functionally it had to accommodate all the typical computer peripherals, file storage and research materials while providing a generous amount of work surface. Aesthetically we wanted it to be substantial and reflect the same level of quality as our collection of rare prints. Dick Klein of Elegant Grains delivered a piece that was beautifully precision-crafted and everything we requested.”
The elegant
grains solid quartersawn
white oak secretary, almost six and a half feet wide and seven and a half feet
high, features oversize wood, inset frame and solid panel doors, solid brass pin
door hinges and door/drawer pulls, and full extension drawer slides. The
piece was stained a color slightly darker than natural and topcoated with
polyurethane to protect the work surfaces. “We were so pleased with Dick’s work that we commissioned him to build three large matching bookcases and are discussing designs for additional storage and display cabinetry for our rare map collection. The secretary and bookcases are exquisitely made and we would recommend Dick Klein to anyone who appreciates quality workmanship.”
